CCTA Scholarships
Congratulations to our 2011 Scholarship Winners!
Morgan Lindsay
Morgan is a student at Kansas State University majoring in Agriculture Business with a minor in Leadership Studies. In her opinion, agriculture is the one industry in the world that personally affects everyone. Due to the changes within the industry, such as less farmable land and a growing world population, technology and practices for sustainability need to continually improve. Conservation tillage plays a big role in conservation and the affordability of produce while still maintaining profitable margins. Advocacy in agriculture is necessary to inform the public of the facts so they are not mistaken by highly advertised falsehoods. Her future plans are to work in the agricultural lending field. By doing this, she hopes to assist producers in obtaining funds needed to be progressive agriculturists that can continue to improve technology and practices. This will lead to better efficiency of yields per acre, lower emissions from chemicals, reduced energy costs and sustainability.
J.D. Barkey
J.D. is a student at Colorado State University majoring in Soil and Crop Science/Agriculture Business. He was raised on a fourth generation family farm operation and has from a young age planned his future in agriculture. The challenges faced with an unstable economy, urban sprawl and weather changes encourage American farmers to push through the hard times and make something great. J.D. places importance on pushing the educational standards to sustainable and efficient agricultural practices. Learning to do more with less farmable ground and more people to feed promotes conservation tillage practices. He hopes to understand the problems faced as a manager of his own enterprise and learn the tools to run a sustainable operation.
